Meet and Greet 2012
April 24, 2012
The Meet & Greet 2012 was recently held on the 25th March at the University of Queensland. With support from Education Malaysia Australia (EMAS) and collaborations from the University of Queensland Malaysian Student Association (UQMSA), Persatuan Pelajar Malaysia (Muslim) Queensland (PPMQ), Bond University Malaysian Association (BUMA), Queensland University of Technology Malaysian Student Association (QUT MySA) and Kelab UMNO Queensland (UMNO QLD), MASCA Queensland was able to make the event a colourful success. The event started at approximately ten o’clock in the morning; beginning with welcoming speeches from Anas Amir Zainal, the Chairperson of MASCA QLD and Dr Jumiati Ismail, the Director of Education Malaysia Australia (EMAS).
This was then followed by an interactive presentation on Student Safety Awareness by Sergeant Jim Bellos, the Cross-Culture Liaison Officer of Metropolitan South Region from the Queensland Police, which was a special slot requested by EMAS. After the presentation, Mr Hj. Zaharuddin Shamsuddin, the EMAS Education Attaché then gave a presentation about Education Malaysia Australia and how EMAS relates to the Malaysian students in Australia. Of course, the event wasn’t only about speeches from important people; there were also some fun and games held for families and students! The crowd was seemingly cheerful and supportive of those who participated in the competitions; filling the atmosphere with positive vibes and happy, smiling faces.
The fun didn’t stop there, especially when the audiences were wowed to no end of the exciting performances by the MASCA Dance & Theatre Troupe as well as the QUT MySA members. It was indeed a thrilling day for the people who came. As for food, there were authentic Malaysian dishes served as well as an Aussie barbeque for the crowd. What is attending a Malaysian event without the presence of authentic Malaysian food, right? Besides good food and fun activities, there were many booths set up by various Malaysian Student Organisations. The main purposes for these booths were to promote future events of respective organisations for the entire year of 2012 and also to enable registrations for new members. As this activity was the first major event to start off the year, there were many new faces spotted at the happening as well as the usuals. This was indeed one of the major objectives of holding this event; as a meeting point for fellow Malaysian students to meet up and form new bonds with one another. Thankfully, the day ended just the way it started; sunny and beautiful as the event was a major success. In the events to come, we all hope to create a better atmosphere for the Malaysian community, perfect with the theme of MASCA Queensland, ‘Better Together!’
